Realism Tattoos in Prague
Portraits, animals and lifelike scenes built from soft gradients and precise tonal values.
Realism is among the most demanding disciplines in tattooing. It replicates a photograph through shading alone, so it asks for the right reference, enough skin, and enough time. Our realism artists work in black and grey and in colour, and they will tell you plainly what your idea needs before you commit to anything.Lifelike portraits and scenes in black and grey or colour. Honest advice on size, time and cost first.

A tattoo that behaves like a photograph
A strong realistic piece looks dimensional because the artist builds depth through subtle changes of tone, not through outlines. That is why realism punishes shortcuts: a face needs its highlights left clean, its shadows laid in smoothly and its edges kept soft.
Size is not a style choice here, it is a technical limit. Facial features need room. Below roughly the size of a palm, details start to run together as the skin ages, so we will sometimes recommend going larger or simplifying the composition instead of squeezing in more.
Realism sessions run longer and cost more per piece than most styles. Stencil preparation, photo analysis and multi-pass shading all take time. The estimate you get from us is based on the actual reference and placement, not a flat guess.
Realism, done in the studio's own way
Four things we do on every realism project.
Portraits and animals
People, pets and wildlife, with the eyes and the light given the most attention, because that is where a portrait is won or lost.People, pets and wildlife. Eyes and light first.
Black and grey or colour
Soft monochrome shading for timeless depth, or colour realism where the subject calls for it. Your artist will say which will hold up better on your skin.Monochrome depth or full colour, whichever suits the subject.
Photo analysis and stencil
We study your reference for tone, contrast and edges, then build a custom stencil sized to the body part, so the composition sits correctly before we begin.Reference study and a custom stencil before we start.
Multi-pass shading
Realism is built in layers. Each pass refines the tone, which is why the piece looks smooth and why it takes the time it takes.Built in layers, which is why it takes time.
Is realism the right choice?
Realism is wonderful when it suits the idea and the skin, and disappointing when it does not. Here is how we think about it.When realism works, and when to choose something else.
Realism works well when
- The subject is a person, an animal or a specific scene
- You have a sharp, well-lit reference photo
- The area is a palm or larger
- You can set aside several hours, possibly several sessions
Think twice, or choose another style, when
- The piece must be very small
- The reference is blurry or heavily filtered
- You want bold outlines that read from far away (blackwork does this better)
- The budget or time is tight for the size you imagine

As a rule, at least about the size of a palm. Smaller than that, facial features can blend together as the skin ages. If you want something small, we will suggest a simpler composition or another style.
Longer than most styles. A palm-sized piece can take a few hours, while larger compositions are planned over several sessions. You will get a realistic time estimate at the consultation.
Black and grey ages gracefully and suits most portraits. Colour realism is wonderful for the right subject and takes more passes. Your artist will recommend based on the subject and your skin.
Yes. Send the sharpest, best-lit image you have. If a photo is poor, we may suggest combining several or taking a new one.
Soft gradients can lose some crispness over the years, especially in the sun. Good contrast in the original design, sun protection and a touch-up when needed keep it looking its best.
It depends on size, detail and time. What changes the price is on the tattoo prices page, and the consultation gives you a specific estimate.
